Practical Recommendation

If you buy much of anything on Amazon and already have Prime, this is the no-fee default: a flat 5% back at Amazon, Whole Foods, and even bookings through Chase Travel. The rest of the categories are fine (2% on dining, gas, and local transit including rideshare), but the real value is stacking everyday Amazon orders at 5% without thinking.

If you don't have Prime or rarely use Amazon, skip it—without Prime you're looking at the 3% Amazon Visa instead, and there are better general-spend options. Do the honest math on Prime itself, too: at $139/year, 5% only beats a plain 2% card once you're spending north of about $4,600 a year on Amazon. Bottom line: Prime members who shop Amazon monthly will squeeze easy, reliable value here.

Perks

  • Simple, high earn at Amazon – 5% back at Amazon, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, and Chase Travel with an eligible Prime membership. Great for households that funnel groceries and regular shopping through Amazon.
  • No foreign transaction fees – Helpful for international trips or overseas websites; you won't get dinged extra for the currency conversion.
  • Instant welcome gift card – The $200 Amazon gift card loads to your account upon approval with no spending requirement, so you can use it immediately at checkout. Note that Amazon moves this number around ($150 to $250 depending on the promo), so check the offer before you apply.

Protections

(via Visa Signature/Chase; use your card for the purchase)

  • Purchase Protection – Covers new purchases for damage or theft for up to 120 days, $500 per claim, $50,000 per account. Good for gadgets and small appliances.
  • Extended Warranty – Adds 1 extra year on eligible U.S. manufacturer warranties of 3 years or less (up to 4 years total). Useful on electronics and small appliances.
  • Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver – Decline the rental company's collision damage; coverage reimburses theft/collision damage. In the U.S., this is secondary to your own auto insurance.
  • Roadside/Travel assistance (dispatch/referrals) – Pay-per-use help for tows, jump-starts, or referrals when traveling; nice safety net even if you don't have a membership elsewhere.
