Practical Recommendation

If you pay rent, this is the rare $0-fee card that actually moves the needle: 1x on rent (no processing fee) up to 100,000 points/year, plus 3x dining and 2x travel. The catch: you must make 5+ purchases each statement period or you earn 0 points for that period (rent still processes).

It's ideal for renters who want flexible travel points without babysitting dozens of credits. Add in solid protections (cell phone, trip delay, primary car rental) and no foreign transaction fees and it's an easy everyday keeper. Bottom line: renters should start here; homeowners can still use it for dining/travel and transfers, but the rent angle is the point.

Perks

  • Earn on rent (no fee) – Pay rent in the Bilt app and earn 1x up to 100,000 points/year. Rent payments can be made via Venmo, bank transfer, or even if your landlord doesn't take cards (Bilt can mail a check). Limits & catches: You must make 5+ purchases per statement period to earn any points; only one property payment per month.
  • Dining & travel multipliers – 3x dining, 2x travel when booked direct with airlines, hotels, cruise lines, and car rentals.
  • Rent Day double points – On the 1st of each month, earn 6x dining, 4x travel, 2x other (non-rent) with a 1,000 bonus-point monthly cap. Why care: Easy way to front-load a month's spend for extra points.
  • Bilt Dining (stackable) – Earn extra points (often up to 10x) at participating restaurants when you pay with any card linked in the Bilt app—stacks with your card's own earnings. Limits & catches: Offers vary by restaurant, city, and status; check the app for multipliers and caps.
  • Point transfers (1:1) to major partners – Move points to airlines and hotels for outsized value; includes United MileagePlus, Alaska, and World of Hyatt among many others (Accor transfers 3:2). Why care: Travel redemptions can beat 1¢ cash values by a lot.
  • No foreign transaction fees – Pay abroad without the usual ~3% penalty.

Protections

  • Cell phone protection – When you pay your monthly wireless bill with the card, get up to $800 per claim (max 2 claims/year, $25 deductible) for damage, theft, or involuntary and accidental parting. Why care: Can save you from buying separate phone insurance.
  • Trip cancellation & interruption – Reimburses up to $5,000 per covered traveler per trip for nonrefundable common-carrier tickets when you paid the full fare with the card and a covered reason applies (secondary coverage). Why care: Helps when life torpedoes your plans.
  • Trip delay reimbursement – If a common-carrier trip is delayed 6+ hours, get up to $200 per day for eligible expenses, max $1,800 total (requires paying the fare with the card; special rule for NY residents). Why care: Covers meals and hotels when you're stuck.
  • Rental car collision damage waiver (primary in U.S., except NY) – Decline the agency's CDW and pay with the card for coverage up to $50,000, max 31 days; exclusions apply (e.g., certain countries/vehicles). Why care: Lets many renters skip the pricey counter insurance.
  • Purchase protection – Covers new purchases for 90 days against theft or damage, up to $10,000 per item, $50,000 per account per 12 months (secondary to other coverage). Why care: Helpful on electronics and furniture.
