Practical Recommendation
VentureOne is the no-fee "learn the ropes" travel card: flat 1.25x everywhere, plus 5x when you book hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars through Capital One Travel. Redemptions are easy (erase recent travel at 1¢ per mile) and you can graduate to transfers when you're ready. There's also a 0% intro APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers, which makes it a reasonable place to park a planned big purchase.
Be aware there are no annual credits here—no travel credit, no Global Entry credit, no lounge access. What you get is the earning rate and the $0 fee. If you want faster earning and real credits, Venture now comes with a $100 annual hotel credit that more than covers its $95 fee, which makes it hard to argue for VentureOne unless you truly want zero fee. If you want simple value with no annual fee and no foreign fees, this is still a painless starter.
