Chase's United Travel Card
If you fly United a few times a year, this is the "set it and forget it" pick: two free checked bags for you and a companion, early boarding, and an automatic $200 in United TravelBank each year. Add the simple 2x on travel and dining and you are already close to break-even.
The extra award-flight discounts (10,000 miles at each anniversary and another 10,000 miles after $20,000 in annual spend) plus the ability to earn Premier qualifying points (status points) via spend are nice—but only if you'll use them. Bottom line: United flyers who value free bags and a guaranteed $200 flight offset will be happy here.
This is what makes or breaks a card for you. If you can use these credits in your normal spend, the perks and protections are all bonus for you. We have a calculator at the bottom of this section to help you calculate that. Below we break down exactly what every credit is to show you if it's easy or if they're going to make you jump through 17 hoops to redeem it.
| What It Is: | $200 in United TravelBank cash after account opening and at each account anniversary, valid toward United or United Express flights. |
| How It Works: | Deposited to your MileagePlus account; appears within about 4 weeks of anniversary; apply at checkout on united.com/app. |
| Gotchas: | Expires 12 months after issue; cannot combine with travel certificates or Money + Miles; not transferable. |
| Who Actually Benefits: | Anyone buying at least one United ticket per year. |
| Practical Value: | Very close to a real $200 if you fly United yearly. |
| What It Is: | Up to $150 in statement credits each anniversary year on prepaid hotel bookings through Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United cardmembers. |
| How It Works: | Book and prepay via the Renowned Hotels site; pay with the card; statement credits post after charge posts. |
| Gotchas: | Portal-only; must prepay; prices/availability can differ from booking direct; benefits vary by property. |
| Who Actually Benefits: | Travelers who can funnel one prepaid stay through this program annually. |
| Practical Value: | Useful if you already plan a qualifying stay; $0 if you do not use the portal. |
| What It Is: | Up to $8 back monthly Jan–Nov and $12 in Dec on rideshare purchases each calendar year after enrollment. |
| How It Works: | Enroll once per year; pay qualifying rides with the card; monthly credit posts as a statement credit. |
| Gotchas: | Must opt in annually; monthly caps do not roll over; "rideshare" must code properly. |
| Who Actually Benefits: | Regular riders (commuters, airport runs) who remember to enroll. |
| Practical Value: | Easy ~$100 if you ride monthly. |
This is effectively what you are paying for this card. It is now up to you if the perks, protections, and earning rates are worth this fee to you over other cards.
