Capital One's Premium Travel Card
The Capital One Venture X is the rare premium travel card that doesn't make you jump through hoops. At $395 per year, it's actually one of the easiest premium cards to break even on—the $300 travel portal credit plus 10,000 anniversary miles (worth $100+) gets you to $400+ in value with minimal effort. Unlike cards that pile on brand-specific credits, this one focuses on simple, usable benefits.
Day-to-day: Use it as your primary card for 2x miles on everything—that's competitive with any flat-rate card. Book travel through Capital One's portal when possible for the $300 credit and higher earning rates (5x flights, 10x hotels). Set calendar reminders to use lounges when traveling. The miles transfer to partners like Turkish Airlines and Air Canada if you want to get fancy, or just redeem at 1¢ each against travel purchases for simplicity.
Caveats: The $300 credit only works through Capital One's travel portal, so if you're loyal to booking direct with airlines/hotels or prefer other sites, you'll miss out on the main value. Lounge access rules are changing in 2026—guests will cost $45 each unless you spend $75k annually. Some airport locations are limited compared to Chase or Amex networks.
Best pairing: Use a Capital One Savor for dining and groceries at higher rates, keeping everything in the same points ecosystem. This combo gives you strong flat-rate earning plus category bonuses without needing to track multiple point types or transfer partners.
This is what makes or breaks a card for you. If you can use these credits in your normal spend, the perks and protections are all bonus for you. We have a calculator at the bottom of this section to help you calculate that. Below we break down exactly what every credit is to show you if it's easy or if they're going to make you jump through 17 hoops to redeem it.
| What It Is: | $300 credit each account year for bookings made through the Capital One Travel portal (flights, hotels, rental cars). |
| How It Works: | Book through Capital One Travel, pay with your Venture X, and the credit automatically reduces the charge. You can spread it across multiple bookings. |
| Gotchas: | Portal-only. If you usually book directly with airlines or hotels, you'll need to adjust. Prices are usually competitive, but always check against direct sites. |
| Who Actually Benefits: | Travelers who are comfortable booking through the portal for at least $300/year. |
| Practical Value: | Easy $300 if you use the portal; worthless if you refuse to book this way. |
| What It Is: | 10,000 bonus miles every account anniversary (worth at least $100 when redeemed for travel). |
| How It Works: | Miles drop into your account automatically each year on your card anniversary. Redeem through Purchase Eraser or Capital One Travel. |
| Gotchas: | None really. Value depends on how you redeem—1 cpp floor via travel, possibly more if you transfer to partners. |
| Who Actually Benefits: | Literally everyone who keeps the card open past one year. |
| Practical Value: | A guaranteed $100+ back just for keeping the card. |
| What It Is: | Up to $25 credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry, once every 4 years. |
| How It Works: | Pay the application fee with your Venture X, and the charge gets wiped automatically. |
| Gotchas: | One credit per 4 years, so if you already have it, you'll need to gift it to a friend or family member. Doesn't stack with other cards offering the same perk. |
| Who Actually Benefits: | Anyone without TSA PreCheck/Global Entry yet. Frequent travelers especially. |
| Practical Value: | Solid $25 saved every 4 years |
This is effectively what you are paying for this card. It is now up to you if the perks, protections, and earning rates are worth this fee to you over other cards.
A big perk of the Venture X is access to the lounges. If any of these lounges are in an airport you are in frequently this is a pretty awesome perk. These lounges are all new and extremely nice. Wait times can be a pain sometimes, but you can check in on the app right when you get to the airport to help limit them.
Notes: Capital One also operates Capital One Landing (a food-forward concept): currently open at DCA Terminal 2 (National Hall near Concourse D) and planned for LGA Terminal B. If you're comparing "Lounges" vs. "Landing," check location and access rules before you plan a terminal hop. — DCA Landing page — LGA Landing overview
